What are research peptides?

What a peptide is
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids, the same building blocks that make up proteins. The difference is length: peptides are short, generally from a few amino acids up to around fifty, while proteins are longer chains. Many peptides act as signaling molecules, meaning they carry instructions between cells and receptors in biological pathways. That signaling role is why peptides are studied so widely in research.
How research peptides are grouped
Research peptides are usually organized by the research area they are studied in, not by an approved use. Common categories include:
- Metabolic and GLP-1 - compounds like Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, and Retatrutide studied around metabolic and glucose-regulation pathways.
- Healing and recovery - compounds like BPC-157 and TB-500 studied around tissue and recovery pathways.

- Cognitive and mood - compounds like Semax and Selank studied around brain signaling.

Terms worth knowing
- Lyophilized - freeze-dried into a stable powder, the form most research peptides ship in.
